Hispanic Leadership Development Program

The Hispanic Chamber Education Foundation is launching for the second year in a row the Hispanic Leadership Development Program starting February 2013. The Education Foundation in collaboration with Metropolitan State College of Denver Leadership identified the need for a culturally relevant leadership development training program for mid-level professionals.

 Goals of Hispanic Leadership Development Program:

  • Identify business professionals interested in advancing their careers by expanding their leadership skills and their ability to contribute to their their organizations, the community and the business sector. 
  • Provide participants with an in-depth understanding of cultural differences within leadership, and insights regarding self-promotion in securing upward mobility within their individual organizations or community.
  • Enhance communication among Hispanic leaders in the civic and business community.
  • Facilitate access between program participants and current Hispanic leadership within the community.

Program Details:

  • Six month Series
  • One full day per month program (Lunch Included)
  • 3rd Wednesday of each month 10:00am–6:00pm
  • Location: TBD
  • Program delivered by Metropolitan State College professors and community leaders

Application Process:

In order to be considered for the 2013 Hispanic Leadership Development Program an application is required to be received via email, fax or mail no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31st. A $50 non-refundable application processing fee is charged at the time of registration. Please include a check or credit card information with your application. This fee will not be credited toward the overall program fees if you are accepted into the program.

Application to include:

  • Professional biography
  • Resume
  • Head shot
  • One-page letter explaining why you would be a great candidate for the 2013 Hispanic Leadership Development Program
  • Letter of reference from your current employer/organization
  • Application fee of $50

 Participant Criteria:

  • Demonstrate a strong potential for achieving a position of leadership, as a professional and/or a community leader.
  • Have leadership experience in a business, community or corporate environment. 
  • Have a commitment and passion for moving the Hispanic community forward.
  • Bring diversity based on industry sector, life experience, age, race, ethnicity, etc.
  • Will commit the time required to fully engage in the program and attend all sessions.
  • Employer endorsement is required.

Employer Endorsement:

Applicants must have the support and commitment from their employer to show that they support the applicant’s time commitment to the program. A letter of recommendation and acknowledgement from your immediate supervisor on behalf of your employer must be emailed to Cheryl Lucero at Clucero@hispanicchamberdenver.org by January 18, 2013.

Class Selection:

The class of 2013 will be approximately 30-35 participant who are selected to represent a cross-section of private/for-profit, public and nonprofit sectors throughout the community. The Program also encourages diversity in its applicants and is open to all individuals.

Attendance Policy:

Attendance and participation is required for all scheduled classes and homework assignments as it is essential and beneficial to what you gain from the Hispanic Leadership Development Program. If your schedule does not permit you to attend all classes, we recommend you postpone applying until your schedule can accommodate the time commitment needed for the program. Participants are expected to arrive on time and remain for the entire session. 

** Special Note: Any participant who misses more than two sessions will be asked to leave the program and will not receive a tuition refund.

Program Fees:

  • Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Denver Member Rate: $1,450
  • Non-member Rate: $1,850
  • Application Fee: $50

**Special Note: Program fees are non-refundable. 

Scholarships:

Partial scholarships are available and limited to those applicants who qualify. This limitation includes representatives from small businesses as well as governmental and non-profit organizations. Please include your request in the form of a one-page letter stating your scholarship needs in order to attend the program. The remaining program fee after the scholarship is applied is due February 21, 2013.

Payment Policy:

All participants are responsible for their payment in the event that your organization or sponsor does not pay. If you have to excuse yourself from the program for any reason, including relocation or change of employment, the program fees are non-refundable. Your employer will also be unable to substitute another employee for your seat. Program fees are due once admitted into the program unless other arrangements have been made.
